Hi there,

Based on your blog, I believe I had Moderately severe ovarian hyperstimulation. I got pregnant so again, based on your report I had to let it run its course. I was implanted with 4 fertilized eggs and 4 implanted. Only one survived a couple weeks into pregnancy and that one miscarried at week 9. We did chromosomal testing and it turned out to have Trisomy 21. My question is: Did the OHSS create the bad eggs or was is this a condition that was going to happen no matter what. Thank you!

Just to update you, there were 24 eggs in the end, so it was borderline. Unfortunately the quality hasn't been great, 12 embryos still alive on day 3, some badly fragmented. We transfer tomorrow, hoping for at least one or two decent blasts! Could well be my age, but the sperm sample wasn't fantastic either. I was wondering if you could do a post on the impact of sperm quality on embryo quality? Also, there were white blood cells in the sperm, could you write a bit about that?

Personally, I would only do PC when there are >25 follicles, but if done correctly (timed to start when 50% of the follicles are 14-16mm) and not started too late (when most are larger than 16mm), it should not adversely affect egg quality.

I've just had my day 8 scan showing at least 18 follicles or possibly more (I am 38 and no PCOS!). My FS is very conservative and has decided not to use an Ovidrel trigger, but rather to "shut down" my ovaries with Lucrin in about a week or so before ER. It sounds like the PC protocol mentioned above, or something along those lines anyway. I'm just a tiny bit worried about embryo quality, although I do trust him and he is very experienced. What are your thoughts? Unfortunately I can't call as I'm not in the US or Canada (South Africa actually!)
